Connection guide
At a café, out on a picnic, or travelling, you can still assign work, follow your Agent, and view results on your home computer from your phone. Use Tailscale to connect when you are away from your computer's network.
Your phone can use mobile data or Wi-Fi with Internet access. Your home computer needs to stay on, awake, and connected to the Internet, with Agent Commander and Tailscale running.
Use Tailscale away from home
1. Set up before heading out. Install Tailscale on your phone and computer. Sign in to connect both devices to the same Tailscale network (tailnet).
2. Keep your computer ready. Check that it has Internet access, Tailscale is connected, and the Agent Commander service is running. Adjust its power settings to keep it awake while you need remote access.
3. Connect from wherever you are. At a café, use Wi-Fi with Internet access or mobile data; on a picnic, use mobile data where you have coverage. Enable Tailscale on your phone, then open Agent Commander.
4. Test before leaving home. Turn off Wi-Fi on your phone, enable mobile data and Tailscale, then check that you can open your device and view conversations in Agent Commander.
If you cannot connect, check that both devices are online in Tailscale and that the network's access rules allow them to connect to each other. Tailscale needs Internet access at both ends; without mobile coverage or Wi-Fi at your picnic spot, your phone will not be able to connect to your home computer.
Connect over a local network
1. Connect your phone and computer to the same local subnet. The computer can use Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
2. Avoid guest Wi-Fi or networks that prevent devices from communicating with each other.
3. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings, find Agent Commander, and enable Local Network access if it is off.
4. Check that the computer's firewall allows connections to Agent Commander. On Windows, see the local network access step in the installation guide.
Try connecting again
Return to Agent Commander and tap Retry. If it still cannot connect, run agentcmd status on the computer to check the service, or agentcmd doctor to check the installation.
If the app reports a device certificate mismatch, get a fresh pairing code directly from the computer with agentcmd auth show, then pair again.
See installation and support for more checks or to contact support.
